Millions of Australians who depend on Centrelink support payments will soon receive a small increase in their benefits. The payment will increase by $19.60 per fortnight, bringing the maximum amount for single recipients to $1,066.30 every two weeks. The Parenting Payment is designed to support primary caregivers who are responsible for raising young children. Changes to Commonwealth Rent Assistance
Australians who receive Commonwealth Rent Assistance will also see a slight improvement in their payments. Single recipients will receive an additional $4 per fortnight, raising the maximum rent support to $219.40. This assistance helps individuals and families who rent privately while also receiving government income support. With housing costs continuing to rise in many regions, even small increases can help reduce financial pressure on households with limited income.
Purpose of the Indexation Process
These payment adjustments are part of Australia’s routine indexation system, which reviews social security payments twice each year.
